Zax is an oldie but a goodie!  Zax is shot down on a planet rich in minerals.  The
oppressed inhabitants get his help to rid themselves of the robots of OM.

There are 22 levels in the game.  Several tasks are set out in each level.   Check the
“mission objectives” in the save (esc) menu.  Check for “items” to find in each level in
this menu also.  

Remember to save after an important event or close call in a fight.  If you don’t save and
Zax is killed, you have to go back to your last save to pick up the game.  Find all the
“switches and turn gates” or you’ll be stuck later on as “unknown and magical items” will
be missed.  Blast all “boxes and jars” as they contain the magical items, ore, crystals,
and fruit for strength.  Don’t let Zax loose his shield strength or health or he’ll be
killed in his next fight.  Blue energy balls charge his weapons and yellow charge his
shields.  In a tough fight (red transport pads) shoot robots to get the energy balls left
behind.  In fact hide and shoot robots to build up a vast store of energy balls and save
game so you can easily move about in a fight and recharge.  This is important in several
fights in tight spots near red pads and when you must destroy the “blue control panels”
that shut down the blue transport pads.  You will also find it useful to go back to areas
of energy balls to recharge before moving forward.  

Powerful weapons use more energy and must be recharged.  Use only the power necessary to
stop each type of robot or you’ll drain your weapon energy to fast.  If you “purchase”
weapons when you transport back to your ship make sure to purchase both the ammunition and
the weapon that uses it or you’ll waste ore and crystals.  Purchase the weapon first as
you can “pick up ammunition” lying around after you kill robots.  If you can collect
energy balls to recharge shields and weapons you don’t have to purchase them at the ship,
though you can do this.  You can purchase energy recharges for shield and weapons as well
as weapons and ammunition at the ship.  

Watch for “stone keys” early in the game.  They are not clearly marked and are only lying
around and must be found to move on.  Save when you find one or it will be lost if Zax
gets killed later.  Doors are hard to find.  In fact later in the game on the island area
one is downright invisible and it must be found to move on.   This is a problem that
recurs several times.  You can get into the next area ahead of the game sequence.  The
levels are sequential in the save menu.  This can cause trouble also.  You can often go
back through a door if this occurs though some are blocked.  You cannot tell if you are
ahead of sequence until you save and still may not know it until later so search each area
well.  Go into all nooks and crannies for secrets and hidden items.  Some “switches and
turn gates” are in another area.  The game will often direct you back to the area it
opens.   You will have to go back to get into the area.  This is important as items and
forward progress are often controlled by this practice.  Suspect this if you turn a switch
and nothing happens.  The switch may control an area that you could not get into or will
need to get into later.  Don’t throw the switch again or you’ll close the hidden area.  

When you are completely stuck a situation like a missed hidden switch, door or key may be
the problem.  “Caves” are also the hiding places of keys, items and entry to other levels
and areas.  Search all of them well and be careful in them.

A difficult spot is “leading Mindaza” from the holographic pit.  You must lead him to the
yellow strars on the other side of the doorway in the wasteland.  He finds the first magic
item for you and this is important as it opens the mission to find all 5 items.  If you go
left, Zax’s left, you get to the yellow stars in the dirt.  If you go to Zax’s right you
loose this mission start until you accidentally do it later, if at all.  The game can
stall here.  You’ll find items and they don’t make sense to you.   The items are spread
over M20 (2) and M21 (3).  The search for them doesn’t offically start until M21.  Check
your mission objectives and items list in the save menu.  You do not need to find all the
6 parts of the weapon to finish the game.  I never did. There may be as many as 50 saves
in a level because of tough fights and the like!  Enjoy!
